Message aluminum backing they contract and expand at different rates. This causes warping.
Another bad thing on L/W's is the fact that they use a very hard carbon steel surface. It is harder for the clutch material to bite into it which causes a loss of friction between the two.

Problem 3 is clutch life. With a L/W aluminum steel inserted flywheel the heat builds on the surface much quicker than a cast solid steel stock flywheel.. If you cannot dissapate the heat the clutch will not last as long. You will also slip the clutch more with a L/W flywheel to get the car moving from a stop which will contribute to shorter clutch life.

IMHO a a L/W flywheel's negatives outweigh the positives for street use.
